Going to Vegas for a week in August, Stay at Planet Hollywood or Golden Nugget?

I am taking my fiance to Las Vegas for a week in August. She will have her golden birthday while we are there (25). Just wanting to get some opinions on which of these 2 hotels to stay at. Please give me pros and cons. Thanks so much in advance.Going to Vegas for a week in August, Stay at Planet Hollywood or Golden Nugget?
Well...pros and cons for both.

Planet Hollywood's greatest feature is that it is on "The Strip" and fairly central to walk all over the "Mega-resort corridor" with Caesar's Palace, Bellagio, MGM, NYNY, etc etc etc. Beyond that...I don't care for the property very much. Too many "timeshare sales" people bugging you as you walk into/out of the shops...their nightclub was shut down before for allowing "illegal acts" to take place, regularly, to the point that VEGAS thought it was too bad to stay in business! That takes a lot of BAD and ILLEGAL stuff. I don't care for 'most' of the restaurants there...poor service, poor food (taste/quality), and/or overpriced....except for 'maybe two' spots...and not impressed/don't care for...their pool area either. (FYI I helped prepare this property 'pre-opening' before it became the PH property...and I still dont' care for it...just being honest...sorry.)

Golden Nugget...is a legendary property...has been around since 'early Vegas days' and people who have not stayed there...don't understand how NICE it is! The property was remodeled and redesigned 'several times' in the last 10-12 years as it changed hangs from a few different owners. Their pool area is small...but VERY cool, classy, stylish...as hip as the mega-pool party venues on "the strip" are. With that said...it IS NOT on the Strip. It is on Freemont Street...the "downtown" or 'original' Vegas area. That does mean you will 'normally' have an older crowd than say "The Palms" and "Hard Rock Hotel" party spots....but the rooms are impressively nice for being downtown. Their suites can be HUGE and I've even stayed in a two-story mega suite (1500-2,000 sq ft?) that is impressive to anyone!

It comes down to what you are looking for from you experience. Freemont street is cool with it's overhead light display, free entertainment on the stages up and down the street, street performers all along the length of the street, etc...but most of the other properties are older and tackier than the Golden Nugget is. There are some VERY NICE restaurants and cool night spots (beauty bar, etc) down there...but is does not have the "glitz and glamour" that the Mega-resorts along "the strip" have.

PH does NOT have any Glitz or Glamour...it is a 'decent' property...but in August...if you are just looking for a 'bargain' spot to stay at...consider other properties! (Tropicana is NEWLY REMODELED and just partnered with NIKI BEACH from South Beach Miami (Famous for P-Diddy parties, etc and will be a "major pool party scene" etc after its opening in May (thought insiders say it might not 'really' open the 'party venue side' until June...still before you get here! (I spend last night hanging with the management of Niki Beach and the owner of ALL their clubs! Good people.)

Keep me updated on your event plans...if you wish...I'll at least get you "some perk" for a "something cool" in Vegas for your ladies bday.Going to Vegas for a week in August, Stay at Planet Hollywood or Golden Nugget?
Both hotels are nice. As everyone says Planet Hollywood is mid strip, and the Golden Nugget is downtown. If I were going for a whole week then I would definetly stay at Planet Hollywood because it is nice to be able to walk around to all the mega resorts. Downtown Fremont street is fun for one or two days but would be boring past that. I think that the rooms and hotel amenities are about equal as well.

I do have one recomendation to you though, since I travel to vegas at this time of year frequently ,would to be to get a rental car. It is very hot and the heat will exhaust you quicker than normal. Parking is free and very easy everywhere so you go and this way you can drive to the different areas in Vegas and park. Also bottled water and soda on the strip are at least $5-6 a piece. If you have a car then you can stop in the convinience store and get them for normal prices.
Golden Nugget is a more upscale (luxurious) property than Planet Hollywood, but it's in a less glamorous location (downtown, FREMONT Street, not Freemont) than Planet Hollywood.

I strongly suggest you book a nice room (3 or 4 levels up from the lowest price level) at Planet Hollywood. If you stay at GN, you'll feel like you're having an upscale vacation until you step outside the hotel. If you stay at a cheap room in PH, you'll feel like you're having an upscale vacation until you step inside your room.Going to Vegas for a week in August, Stay at Planet Hollywood or Golden Nugget?
Hi

I have stayed at both, the problem you have with the Golden Nugget is that it is downtown and not on the Strip, unlike the rest of downtown it feels like a strip hotel, lovely rooms and fanastic pool it is certainly worthy of a couple of nights but if you have not been to Vegas before you want to be on the Strip so I would have to say the Planet Hollywood is a better bet for you.

How about this, though ? Room rates in Las Vegas go up at weekends and down in the week why dont you book the weekend at Golden Nugget as the reates are lower than Planet Hollywood and then the week nights at Planet Hollywood this will save you money and will also mean that you get the best of both Worlds.

Follow the instructions here to get the best room rate at both resorts.

Planet Hollywood, for sure. It's a great hotel for a young crowd, and a good party location. It's right on the strip, where all the action and nightlife is located. Golden Nugget is in "old" Vegas - downtown - and there isn't much in the way of clubbing and nightlife there. If you want to be in the middle of everything, then you want to be on the strip, and PH is a great choice.Going to Vegas for a week in August, Stay at Planet Hollywood or Golden Nugget?
I think a week in Vegas is overkill in August. It will be over 110F outside, so even the pools aren't something that you can enjoy for more than a few minutes.

When you are downtown, there isn't really much to see and do. On the strip you can get around easier, so I'd suggest that side of town. Planet Hollywood is ok. There are a lot of better selections at the same price point.
Planet hollywood for sure! Golden nugget is older and kinda trashy. Planet hollywood is off the strip but definitely worth it. Have fun relax during the day and go all out at night, everything is so much better at night!
not the golden nugget there are so many nicer ones then that REALLY! Plant Hollywood would be my choice. I went to Vegas 8 times never would i stat at the nugget. Buy here something with gold. Have a great time and it will be HOT HOT HOT! Check out other hotal pools they r amazing1
Golden Nugget is Downtown not on Strip, nice but I wouldl rather be on Strip. PH is on Strip, geared for the 20ish set, and easy access to all other Strip casino fun
