I'm a dealer in a casino.

First off, you need to get "rated" which means you need to apply for (if you don't already have one) the casino's "player's card". They go by different names but basically it's a free card that puts you in their database and allows you to quality for comps. Sometimes they'll make up these cards for you right at the table, but more likely you go to a center or booth on the gaming floor and provide valid ID and they issue you a card.

For table play (blackjack, etc.):

Most casinos rate your play based on one or all of the following:

1. average bet;

2. your buy-ins (how much money you're forking over);

3. your play time (amount of time at the table).

Each casino is different as far as how much of the above they required, but that is what they base your credits/points on.

If you're a slot player, you'll probably earn your points/comps faster. As slot play generates the majority of the money that a casino makes, the casino usually is more generous with these comps. Just remember to insert your card everytime you're at a machine.

Hope this helps.How to get Comps?
Spend lots and lots of money to get a very small token especially on the strip. Locals get better comps at casinos well off the strip geared for locals. Amazing what we get for just a little play. On the strip you can spends thousands and maybe get a key chain or something. Best way to get comped is to win big ... then they want you to stay with them so you will put their money back into their machines. Anyone can loose ... the town was built from loosers money ... it's the ones that win are the ones they want back.
ON any of the nicer STrip hotels they will not rat you at the tables if you are playing less than $25 per hand though they may have changed that as its slowing a bit, I think at MGM 4 hours at $25 got you a meal ts notlike the good old days where $10 a hand for 2 hours a day paid your room if you were clever. Idont know anything about the PH slot club I am afraid and you will only be able to use your comps against your room if you have booked it direct i.e. not through Experdia, price line etc.

The MGM Players club will give you somthing like 1c for every $1 played you can use this in multiples of $5 as bonus slot play not as comps.

Rule number 1 do not change your play either time, stake or game to get comps this is what the casino wants you do, remeber they only comp a percnetage of what you should lose.

Have a look at this post it can be one of the easiest ways to get a good comp.

The average is at least $15 per hand and so many hands per minute. You get a player's club card and hand it to the pit boss or use it in the slots, each and every time. Then at the end of your stay you can get several souveniors. But also if you are playing large hands consistently, winning or losing, ask the pit boss to comp you for dinner. The larger the cost of the comp, the better "rating" you need.
You received several very good answers.

IMO: Video poker is "generally" the best way to go. "IF" the casino has full pay VP.

As someone already mentioned, the downtown and locals casinos are the place to play for easy comps.

What you need to know

#1 - What to play

#2 - How to play

#3 - Where to play

#4 - How to manage your bankroll

We look for a casino/hotel, that has the game(s) we like to play at a denomination we are comfortable playing, and, they will reward us well for our play.

We go to Las Vegas 2-3 times a year for 2 weeks or more at a time and have for over 20 years. The only time we ever pay for a room is when we choose to because it's to our advantage. We spent 8 weeks in LV last year, 42 of those nights were comped, along with 150-200 meals(every time we ask).

We are not high rollers, we play nickel/dime/quarter video poker.

If you like, send me an e-mail with the game(s) you like to play, the denomination you prefer to play, your bankroll(per day), and what comps you are interested in earning.

BE CAREFUL in that hotel..i had my stuff stolen from my room and about 3K charged to my credit card and they are thee most UNHELPFUL people in any hote l ive ever stayed at..and ive been to vegas literally about 8 times.
some hotels give comps based on time played and some on how much money you play. Ask when you sign up for your players card.
I'm not 100% sure but you should check out tripadvisor.com and type in las vegas in the search section. Under the forum link, I am confident you'll find your answer.
get a club card and gamble, gamble, gamble. Oh and it helps to get in good with the pit boss...
