We have a wedding to attend in Vegas in a few months. I am not sure if we should bring our (will be 8 months old at the time) baby with us. We are able to leave him at home with my parents so there are no concerns about child care. I am wondering if anyone has any experience or advice re: Las Vegas with an infant. I believe the hotel we would be staying at is Planet Hollywood. Thanks for any advice!Traveling to Las Vegas with an 8 month old?
Keep Baby at home with Mom and Dad. He'll be happier and so will you. Then you can kick up your heels and have fun. Nothing for a baby to do here. Besides, you'll be dragging him all over the hotel and Las Vegas is a hotbed of germs since people come from all over the world to stay here and bring their viruses and germs with them.Traveling to Las Vegas with an 8 month old?
Congrats on the Baby and Wedding...
I would recommend leaving the baby home
Bright lights
And strippers everywhere is not a very good enviorment for the little baby
Peace, Charlie
Deffinatley not a good idea.
My mother took me to vegas when I was 7 months old.
She said it was horrible.
She got drunk and dropped me a few times and drunk people tried to kiss me and hold me. She also said that two drunk men said they'd throw beer on me if my mother didn't pay him $100.
She also said on the way back to the airport from vegas a man threated to throw a rock through mmy window and hit me if she didn't give him $20.
I deffinatley reccomend keeping your son/daughter with youre parents.
It's better to be safe then sorry.
Hope this HelpsTraveling to Las Vegas with an 8 month old?
Best to leave the little one home. Not old enough to enjoy any of the sights and if he starts crying that could be irritating to others.
No its not really a good enviorment for an infant. I went there in october and there were a couple people on the strip handing out hooker cards. Ya youll see those all over the ground in some places. But the Strip is amzing!! Youll love especially at night. its awsome. oh and the Bilagio has this water show which is awsome.Replica of the eifle tower and alot of other stuff. Tho bring chapstick. im not lieing when i say bring your chapstick. The air is really dry. And youll get tired fast. other than that its amazing. if you need any more answers, just ask me. Have Fun !!Traveling to Las Vegas with an 8 month old?
Absolutely not a good place to bring a baby. Mostly for your sake. You have to walk miles to where you want to go. You can take expensive cabs or a buses to most places on the Strip or Downtown, but that is about it. Don't forget the "germs". You have people there from all over the world who have flown into L.V. Lots of sick people in those crowds.
Leave the baby at home. You won't be able to enjoy the town with the baby. Take advantage of having some alone couple time, practice making a second baby, and let the grandparents enjoy being grandparents. 8 months old is a good age to venture out on your first short trip. It will be good for everyone! I've been there too. I know it is hard to leave the baby the first time. But you also need to take care of yourself and your relationship with your husband.
If you don't have to bring the baby, then don't. Besides the reasons which the other posted stated (they are all true), children are only allowed on the path through casinos, they can't sit with you when in the gaming areas (practically all of the casino). There is so much smoke and other smells that might affect the baby's breathing or skin. You are expected to do more walking than you probably have ever done and an 8 month old is heavy and strollers are bulky in crowded areas. Besides, the Wynn has a "no stroller" policy and I believe children are only allowed in the Bellagio if guests of the hotel and both of these resorts are "must see" places. If you are more comfortable having the baby with you, Vegas does have sights acceptable for him/her but at 8 months they won't remember it and you and your hubbie/bf are limited.
Enjoy the vacation without the baby.
My wife and I brought our infant to Las Vegas as visitors and now that we live here we have two kids four and eight. Planet Hollywood, unlike Belaggio, Wynn, Encore is not overtly anti child. You cannot bring a stroller into Belaggio at all. Planet Hollywood is a cool hotel, but it's big (although not as big as Caesars) so if you have to carry your kiddie, your arm won't fall off getting to your room elevators. Planet Hollywood is Hard Rock Hotel like in that it caters to very young, very "hip" gamblers so you may feel like you stick out a bit with a very young child. I'm always more self conscious when I have my kids in tow at a place like the Palms or Planet Hollywood than the Orleans, Paris or even the Venetian.
I would say my biggest argument against bringing a kid to Las Vegas and into the casinos is the cigarette smoke. The bright lights, the noise of the slots, the sexy billboards, etc will mean nothing to a kid under 3, but the cigarette smoke is annoying and who wants their kid's clothes to smell like an ashtray?
You also didn't mention if you would be renting a car. If you bring the kid, I would highly, highly recommend it. Taxis are an incredible ripoff, they drive nearly as bad as New York cab drivers and while the double deck bus system is a lot of fun, it's crowded on the strip. Walking is o-u-t. The distances between properties is abusive, especially from Planet Hollywood, so do yourself a favor and get a car.
Finally, as someone who has lived here for five years, if you are coming in a warm/hot month, leave the baby at home. My first year here the temp was 118 in July. It's been hotter. How hot is that? So hot that when you put the baby in the car's baby seat and you touch that metal part to clip them in - it leaves a visible burn mark on your hand.
So there you have it. Socio-psychological moral arguments I think are pretty weak, but parenting is all about logistics and logistically speaking: Las Vegas is a challenge for parents with young kiddies.
Viva!
No, don't take the baby. You will be stuck in the hotel room. Going to Vegas is a chance to live a little and kick loose. Vegas is for fun, not for baby sitting.
Leave the baby to be spoiled rotten with Grandma and Grandpa. The noise and commotion in the casinos can be very overwhelming to a small child, and since you pretty much have to cut thru the casino to get ANYWHERE, you'd have one hysterical kid for a large part of the trip. It wouldn't be enjoyable for anyone at that point.
Not an uncommon question.
