MGM Grand, Stratosphere, Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood Hotels?

I'm planning a trip to Las Vegas and I've been looking at some hotels. We're wanting something reasonably priced and something we've heard of before. It kind of depends on where you look as to what kind of reviews you get. The rates of MGM, Hard Rock %26amp; Planet Hollywood are pretty much in the same price range, the Stratosphere is lower.

We like the idea of staying at Planet Hollywood or Hard Rock because the rooms look modern in the photos we've seen.

My in-laws have stayed at MGM Grand several times, they like it, but they're much older than my husband and I, so what's cool to a 60 year old might not be cool to people in their 20's.

We've only included the Strat because regardless of where we stay, I really want to go up in the tower and get a good view of the city. Plus admission to the tower is free, plus the rates are lower. It seems like a great bargain, but I don't want a bad hotel just so I can save a few bucks.

Does anybody have experience with any of these hotels? Or do you have any other recommendations/suggestions as to where to stay? Thanks!MGM Grand, Stratosphere, Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood Hotels?
Eliminate the Stratosphere unless you have a car. What you save in a room you will make up in cab fares real quick just to get to the main part of the strip every day. The same with the Hard Rock unless you want to party all the time.

MGM is an older crowd than Planet Hollywood attracts. PH also is frequented by many famous people from the entertainment business. You would be much better off at Planet Hollywood than the others you mentioned.

Still I would at least travel once to the Stratosphere to see the view from the top. Do not forget your camera as the view is magnificent.

You might want to read over this website. It is great for first timers.MGM Grand, Stratosphere, Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood Hotels?
The Stratosphere view is fantastic, even if you have to pay for it. And so are the three rides. BUT it is not on the Strip and it is NOT by other hotel casinos. The closest is Sahara and that is a walk.

Hard Rock is NOT on the Strip and you cannot walk to any other casino.

Between MGM and PH, PH is best for someone your age and easy walk to many other properties.
I highly recommend The Planet Hollywood. It's newer and as well as they have a good show called Stomp there. The Koi Japanese restaurant is nice and it's modern. I think you guys will like it more.MGM Grand, Stratosphere, Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood Hotels?
Rule out Hard Rock and The Strat. Those hotels are too far from everything.

If it were just you and your hubby i'd suggest PH because its geared toward a younger crowd, but since your in-laws are going-- MGM GRAND.
The Strat! Just beware of bodies flying off the tower/ride area due to suicides. If staying their you just might get a discount to go up and see the view.MGM Grand, Stratosphere, Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood Hotels?
You guys would have more fun at the Hard Rock or Planet due to people being closer to your age range. Better places to eat inside PH like the strip house!!
I stayed at all of these hotels and I would consider to stay at PH or MGM. PH has a very good location but personally MGM would be my choice because of their great pool scene. Anyway you cannot go wrong with any of these hotels. Just think about the location, Strat and Hard Rock are more away from the action then MGM or PH. Before you book I recommend to check http://www.vegas-hotels-online.com - on this site you will find the latest Las Vegas hotel promotion codes and offers.
Of all those, the MGM is actually the highest independently rated. It has 4-Diamonds from AAA, the others all have 3.

MGM does have room options that are more hip and modern, Skylofts, Signature and West Wing.

The crowd trends slightly older at MGM than at Hard Rock or Planet Hollywood, but MGM is so big the actual number of rooms occupied by people in their 20s at MGM on any given night is still probably more than Hard Rock even has rooms.

Stratosphere is cheap and looks and feels cheap. It is on the same level as a Best Western.
Unless you have a car at your disposal, eliminate the Hard Rock and the Stratosphere. The Strat is too far to the Northern end of the strip and totally isolated and the Hard Rock is no where near the strip.

MGM or Planet Hollywood. PH has a good location but an unremarkable pool. The MGM is next door (although that is a bit of an overstatement. It is far between them). The MGM has a very nice pool with palm trees and even a lazy river to float around in. But be advised, the MGM Grand is massive! Just to walk from the front desk to your room or your room to the Strip out front is an ordeal.

The MGM has a monorail stop, too.

Good Luck!
