Planet Hollywood vs MGM Grand?

Going to Vegas in July (I know, crazy) and can't decide between MGM Grand and Planet Hollywood. I've been in the casino at MGM, and really enjoyed it, but I've never been to PH. I've heard so many mixed reviews about PH, but they're room rates are $89/night compared to $160/night at MGM. Is it worth paying almost twice as much?

Thanks!Planet Hollywood vs MGM Grand?
I work for a Hotel Reservations Company in Las Vegas (lasvegashotels-online.com) and we visit each and every hotel we offer. If it were my choice, I would have to pick Planet Hollywood Resort over the MGM Grand. Planet Hollywood Resort has more restaurants, a shopping mall called Miracle Mile Shops with over 170 different shops and 15 restaurants, better pools (on the roof of the 6th floor with a view of the Strip) and the rooms have been upgraded with better furnishings and marble bathrooms. The MGM Grand has not had a major renovation for a long time and is not as good as it was back in the 90's.

And yes, if you are visiting in July, you're crazy (jk) bring a jacket, because once you are outside in the 110+ heat and step back into one of the casinos you will freeze your tail off.

See for yourself:

IMO if you're talking just standard rooms (judging by the price it must be), and they are the same price. Then Planet Hollywood all the way. The location is just a bit more central than MGM, the rooms are definitely nicer...cus they have been newly rennovated since the transition from Aladdin to Planet Hollywood. MGM rooms at least the standard rooms are a bit dated. Planet Hollywood rooms are traditionally more than MGM rooms. MGM is a huge casino though with many options for food and entertainment...like KA is definitely an awesome show. But Planet Hollywood's Spice Market Buffet is one of the top 5 buffets on the vegas strip..and IMO the best buffet for overall value (same variety as Bellagio almost as good quality, much cheaper).

Anyway go to www.yelp.com GREAT reviews by real people. I'm Gavin N. on there. But yeah Planet Hollywood is what I would recommend, especially now that it's much easier to get on/off strip from the hotel than before.

MGM is the better resort. The $89 deal also contains some "perks".

Charleston Communications has a nice site for comparing based on what actual visitors thinks (They have been doing this for years)

And of course crowded or not the Pool Complex at the MGM Grand is far better.

PH, as Planet Hollywood is known, was originally the Aladdin and then remodeled. It is updated and nice but the casino is very small. I would do the MGM, plus the MGM is across the street from NYNY and Monte Carlo, across a corner to Tropicanan, and the last corner is Excalibur/castle, Luxor/pryamid and Mandalay Bay.
Planet Hollywood is no great shake but the rooms are nice and the bathrooms are large. You get a flat TV and two phones. On the down side, the check-in is too small and at busy times the wait can be long. The swimming area is ok just two rectangle shaped pools. The MGM has a much better Pool area.

On the up side, the location of Planet Hollywood is excellent. They also have one of the best buffets. Only personal taste can make this call.

I just returned from there. MGM is definitely better - casino, rooms and food. Check out their reduced rates on their website. You can probably do better than $160. I stayed at the MGM Signature at $150/nt. It is 5 minutes walk from the casino and is a newer condo type hotel. Very peaceful and very chic.
Are you really going to be in your room that much? Planet Hollywood looks like a better pick. Better location and you don't have to walk miles to get anywhere in the hotel.
I will definitely choose MGM Grand. Take advantage of their promotions. They are currently running special for $68 / night using promo codes. http://www.lasvegas-how-to.com/special.h鈥?/a>
I personally found MGM to be a little overrated. The place is so massive and disorienting and the pool is horribly crowded....

Go with Planet at those rates...
