What is the best form of transportation to use when staying in Las Vegas?

We will be staying at Planet Hollywood for six days. Should we take the shuttle from the airport or is a taxi more economical? I know it will be pretty hot, and although I expect for us to walk to some places the distances between attractions can be pretty long. We would like to explore downtown- didn't have a chance to do this on our last trip. Please let me know about the most economical and safest ways one can get around Las Vegas. What is the best form of transportation to use when staying in Las Vegas?
For Planet Hollywood, it might be cheaper to take a shuttle than get a cab. A shuttle runs like $15 per person round trip, so you get a ride to your hotel and then back to the airport at the end of your trip.

Luckily you are staying right in the center of the strip, so nothing that you would want to see on the strip will be too far away, all within walking distance. To cool off, try walking through hotels as you pass them to take advantage of the air conditioning. It's also a great way to sightsee.

To go downtown, you will have to take the bus. There are bus stops in front of every hotel on the strip so you never have to walk far to find one. The buses pride themselves on having you wait no more than 15 minutes for the next bus to arrive. The cost is $3 one way, $7 for a one day pass, or $15 for a 3 day pass. What is the best form of transportation to use when staying in Las Vegas?
Since you are staying on the strip, the best way to get around the strip and downtown is to use the Deuce (bus). A 24 hour pass cost $7 and well worth it.

Taking a shuttle from the airport is economical if one or two people are travelling. If you are more than 2, then a taxi ride will be cheaper and faster.

For one or two people the shuttle is the best way. You won't get there real fast as it stops at all the hotels to drop off the other riders. You may be lucky and be the first but it always seems to be the last.

The bus is your best choice to get around the strip or the monorail. A taxi will cost because of the traffic which usually comes to a crawl for a good part of the day and evening. What is the best form of transportation to use when staying in Las Vegas?
If it were me, I'd rent a cheap car from Dollar or Enterprise. You can get one for less than 40 bucks a day. It will be hot and if you are not used to the heat you can get sick outside walking around. You want to go downtown and that would be a long Deuce ride with many many stops. But with a car you can go where you want and not pass out from dehydration or a heat stroke.
One or two people, take the shuttle. Three either or the price is about the same. To get downtown you will have to take a taxi or the Deuce, which is the bus. Exact change required can be a bit scary late at night. Not the best of company on the bus.

You will only need to take one trip Downtown. Seen it once you''ve seen it all.
